Nostrification of academic degrees

According to Polish regulations any scientific degree obtained abroad has to be validated in the country in which it was issued and then presented to a Polish higher education institution in order to be recognized (nostrified).

Bodies which can nostrify academic degrees are the councils of faculties which are entitled to award the degree of habilitated doctor (doktor habilitowany).

Different rules of recognition apply to the academic degrees issued in the countries which have signed bilateral agreements on the recognition of educational credentials with Poland. The information on bilateral agreements is available on the website ( Legal frames) of Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange.

UEK is entitled to nostrify academic degrees in the following fields:

Faculty of Economics

  • Doctor of economic sciences
  • Habilitated Doctor of economic sciences

Faculty of Finance and Insurance

  • Doctor of economic sciences in the field of economics

Faculty of Management

  • Doctor of economic sciences in the field of Economics and management sciences
  • Habilitated Doctor of economic sciences in the field of economics and management sciences

 

To nostrify a diploma at Karol Adamiecki University of Economics in Katowice the candidate needs to submit the following documents:

  • letter of application (see here)
  • original of the diploma of academic degree and its official Polish translation (please note that the diploma needs to be validated*)
  • copy of the thesis which constituted the basis for conferring the academic degree
  • copy of higher education diploma or academic degree diploma on the basis of which the candidate was admitted to the studies/initiated the registration and conferment procedure for the degree subject to the nostrification process.
  • Curriculum Vitae in Polish
  • candidate’s written statement that the academic degree has not been subject to nostrification procedure at any other Polish institution of higher education.

 

The faculty council may additionally request

  • a document describing the conferment procedure of the academic degree along with its official Polish translation
  • list of publications constituting the academic achievements of the candidate along with its official Polish translation
The nostrification procedure takes three months, counting from the date of submitting all required documents by the candidat

 

* validation of a diploma

Your bachelor diploma needs to be validated (legalized) by a Polish consulate or Polish embassy in the country in which the diploma was issued. In case your diploma was issued in a country which is a signatory of the Hague Convention you only need to obtain an apostille.
