Katowice has direct train connections with many cities in  Poland and abroad, e.g. Vienna, Prague, Budapest etc. You can search for connections using the Polish Public Rail (PKP) route planner
The main railway station is located in the very centre of Katowice, just 5 minutes’ walk from the Central Square. It is also easy to catch a city bus or tram that will take you from the railway station to the University.
